Xylol | ||||||||
Xylol, or xylene, is similar to Toluol, but with a much slower evaporation rate. It is stronger than turpentine or paint thinner, but weaker than lacquer thinner. It should only be used as a thinner when the coating manufacturer recommends Toluol or Toluene, since it is too strong for many conventional coatings. Its use as a thinner is usually limited to paints applied by spray gun. It is a superior solvent for cleaning and degreasing metal tools and parts. Many oil/alkyd resins are made with Xylol, and it is used to promote leafing in aluminum paints.
Xylol is known by such trade names and terms as xylene, paint thinner, paint solvent, Xylthin and Toluol. Xylol 83-144 MSDS (95,98 KB) Xylol 83-141 MSDS (95,98 KB) |
